Pat steaks dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper.
Preheat a heavy skillet over medium-high heat for 3 to 4 minutes, then add the oil.
Sear steaks for 3 to 4 minutes without moving, then flip and cook another 3 to 4 minutes for medium rare.
Reduce heat to medium, add butter, smashed garlic, and herbs to the pan.
Baste by tilting the pan and spooning melted garlic butter over the steaks for 1 to 2 minutes.
Rest steaks on a warm plate for 5 to 8 minutes, then slice against the grain and serve with pan juices.
